Want to go with the standard dungeon black? Or do you want to mix it up a bit by modifying your bed color a bit, or perhaps sticking with black but making your accessories express your personality through color? We have a broad palette of colors, or search the web and chose a color of your own (just tell us the color code and manufacturer).
Our standard finish option is powder coated steel. A layer of specially treated pigment in the form of a dry powder is electromagnetically applied to the steel surface and then super-heated, undergoing a chemical reaction as the temperature rises. The resulting finish when the powder melts is a hardened solid-colored surface.
Not only is powder coating more ecologically friendly, it creates a much more durable surface that is less-easily scratched and chipped (although please note that chipping and scratching can always occur from sudden impact, sharp objects or regular use of your bed)
Our standard black finishes are either 0% matte black (flat), or standard black 20% gloss finish. All other colors are typically a semi-gloss (30-60%) or high gloss 70% + unless otherwise noted. Finish colors are selected at the time of order from our standard palette, but custom colors can be noted in the additional notes section of the shopping cart during the checkout process. Custom colors MAY incur additional charges. When requesting a custom color, please note the manufacturer, the color name and color code at the time of order.
PRO TIP:
When asked, we generally would recommend using finishes with 40% or less gloss. This is for a variety of reasons, but first and foremost, it tends to soften the look of minor blemishes that can appear in metal tubing and any visible welds from manufacturing (that are not ground smooth). Gloss reflection can not only exaggerate the appearance of visible welds in some of our designs, but can exaggerate fine light scratches that can appear from cleaning your furniture repeatedly over time. It's your choice of course, so go with your what your heart wants!

The Finish Process
The original raw color of the 3” steel tubing we use is gunmetal gray. Before any bed is coated, it is cleaned of all dirt, grease, and residual oil on the metal surface through a fine sandblasting of the metal surface. The surface is then brushed free of any particles and any remaining moisture is dried. From here the bed parts are fully coated with the powdered pigment of your choice in the form of a thermoset polymer. Once coated, the parts are placed in a large industrial oven for processing and baking. The coating is then heated to 400+ degrees fahrenheit for 10-15 minutes. During this time, the thermoset polymer undergoes a molecular change. It does not just melt and then dry again, but rather, changes at the molecular level, each particle forming molecular bonds with every other surrounding particle to form a single seamless shell surrounding the metal frame. The shell is allowed to cool and is then removed, completely sealed from the elements. We allow 24 hours for the items to completely set, after which they are fully inspected for quality. They are then sent for packaging in preparation for shipment.
